SDG # 9 - Infrastructure

Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation

  • 9.1 Develop quality, reliable, sustainable and resilient infrastructure, including regional and trans-border infrastructure, to support economic development and human well-being, with a focus on affordable and equitable access for all

    • The indicator measures the quality and accessibility of infrastructure, including regional and trans-border infrastructure, in support of economic development and human well-being, with an emphasis on affordability and equity.

  • 9.1.1 Proportion of the rural population who live within 2 km of an all-season road

    • The indicator measures the percentage of the rural population who live within a 2 km distance from an all-season road. This provides an indication of the accessibility of rural areas to key infrastructure and services.

  • 9.1.2 Passenger and freight volumes, by mode of transport

    • The indicator measures the volume of passengers and freight transported by various modes of transportation, such as road, air, or rail. This provides a measurement of the effectiveness of the transportation network and its impact on economic development.

  • 9.2 Enhance international cooperation to facilitate access to clean energy research and technology, including renewable energy, energy efficiency and advanced and cleaner fossil-fuel technology, and enhance mutual support for and cooperation on research and development

    • The indicator measures international cooperation on access to clean energy research and technology, including renewable energy, energy efficiency, and advanced fossil-fuel technology. It also measures cooperation on research and development in these areas. This provides a measurement of global efforts to transition towards more sustainable and clean energy sources.

  • 9.3 Increase the access of small island developing States and least developed countries to international support for implementing adaptations measures to address climate change

    • The indicator measures the level of access that small island developing states and least developed countries have to international support for implementing measures to address climate change. This provides a measurement of the level of support provided to the most vulnerable countries to help them adapt to the impacts of climate change.

  • 9.4: Upgrade transportation and infrastructure in rural areas, with a focus on providing access to basic and advanced transport services for all, improving rural connectivity, and ensuring rural communities have access to essential services and job opportunities

    • The indicator measures the extent to which rural areas have access to upgraded transportation and infrastructure, such as roads, bridges, and other forms of connectivity, and the level of accessibility to basic and advanced transport services, such as public transportation and advanced logistics networks.

  • 9.5: Enhance international and regional cooperation to support and enhance transport connectivity in landlocked developing countries and small island developing States, including through improved infrastructure and the development of efficient, cost-effective and safe multi-modal transport systems

    • The indicator measures the level of international and regional cooperation to enhance transport connectivity in landlocked developing countries and small island developing states, as well as the level of improvement in infrastructure and the development of efficient, cost-effective, and safe multi-modal transport systems in these areas. This includes measures of investment in transportation infrastructure, the level of integration between different modes of transport, and the safety and reliability of transport systems in these regions.
