The Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN) IRIS+ is a system that helps assess the impact of investments.
The IRIS + rating system categorizes sustainability efforts into 17 themes, with each theme having multiple strategic goals. The themes include Agriculture, Air, Biodiversity & Ecosystems, Climate, Diversity and Inclusion, Education, Employment, Energy, Financial Services, Health, Infrastructure, Land, Oceans and Coastal Zones, Pollution, Real Estate, and Waste. Under each theme, the goals are aimed at improving various aspects of sustainability, including increasing access to essential services, reducing inequities, improving environmental and ecosystem health, reducing emissions, promoting financial inclusion, and improving housing quality, among others. The system's focus is on promoting sustainable practices and ensuring social, environmental, and economic development.
