Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all

  • 6.1 By 2030, achieve universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water for all

    • This indicator measures the extent to which every person has access to safe and affordable drinking water, regardless of their location, socio-economic status, or other factors. The goal is for everyone to have access to clean drinking water by 2030.

  • 6.2 By 2030, achieve access to adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene for all and end open defecation, paying special attention to the needs of women and girls and those in vulnerable situations

    • This indicator measures the extent to which everyone has access to adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene services. This includes access to toilets, handwashing facilities, and safe disposal of human waste. The goal is to end open defecation and ensure that everyone has access to proper sanitation by 2030, with special attention to the needs of women and girls and those in vulnerable situations.

  • 6.3 By 2030, improve water quality by reducing pollution, eliminating dumping and minimizing release of hazardous chemicals and substances

    • This indicator measures the extent to which water quality is improved by reducing pollution, eliminating dumping of hazardous chemicals and substances, and minimizing their release into the environment. The goal is to improve water quality by 2030.

  • 6.4 By 2020, substantially increase water-use efficiency across all sectors and ensure sustainable withdrawals and supply of freshwater to address water scarcity and substantially reduce the number of people suffering from water scarcity

    • This indicator measures the extent to which water-use efficiency is increased across all sectors and the sustainable withdrawals and supply of freshwater is ensured. The goal is to address water scarcity and reduce the number of people suffering from it by 2020.

  • 6.5 By 2030, implement integrated water resources management at all levels, including through transboundary cooperation as appropriate

    • This indicator measures the extent to which integrated water resources management is implemented at all levels, including through transboundary cooperation as appropriate. The goal is to implement integrated water resources management by 2030.

  • 6.6 Protect and restore water-related ecosystems, including mountains, forests, wetlands, rivers, aquifers and lakes

    • This indicator measures the extent to which water-related ecosystems are protected and restored, including mountains, forests, wetlands, rivers, aquifers, and lakes. The goal is to protect and restore water-related ecosystems.

  • 6.7-a By 2030, expand international cooperation and capacity-building support to developing countries in water- and sanitation-related activities and programmes, including water harvesting, desalination, water efficiency, wastewater treatment, recycling and reuse technologies

    • This indicator measures the extent to which international cooperation and capacity-building support is expanded to developing countries in water- and sanitation-related activities and programs, including water harvesting, desalination, water efficiency, wastewater treatment, recycling and reuse technologies. The goal is to expand such support by 2030.
